Aldo from Italy had a nice birthday surprise at Pom Pom Island, first of all, his daughter had brought him a special birthday cake and his wife, Maria, had sponsored the latest turtle nest on his behalf. Aldo and Maria had been with our Turtle Patrol the night before, and had witnessed a green turtle laying eggs, then watched our patrol carefully move the eggs to the hatchery. Maria had the idea afterwards to sponsor this nest as a birthday surprise. We gave our Appreciation Certification and look forward to sending the photos of the babies when born. Thank you very much for your support!
イタリアからのアルドさん、ステキなバースデーをポンポン島で迎えました。イタリアの娘さんからのシークレットケーキでしょ、それに奥様のマリアさんからは海亀の巣のスポンサー証明書のプレゼント。ちょうど前日に海亀パトロール隊に参加し、産卵シーンやスタッフが注意深く海亀を取り扱う様子を見学。これに感心した奥様が海亀の巣に寄付をくださり、そのスポンサー証明書を旦那様にプレゼントしたのよ。この巣から赤ちゃん海亀が誕生したら写真を送ってあげなきゃね。アルドさん、マリアさん、どうもありがとうございました！

Our turtle patrol is growing in number and getting more successful. Now we have 5 members who are actively patrolling the beach at night and early morning searching for turtle nests. We now have 6 nests in our New Hatchery, and are waiting for the next babies from the original hatchery.
Well done guys!! Keep it up!
タートルパトロール隊が増員中、そして海亀の卵の保護も順調！現在５名のパトロール隊が在籍、朝晩のビーチパトロールに励んでいます。新設した保護センターには６つの巣を現在保護中。赤ちゃん海亀の誕生が楽しみだわ。

Mike and Marilyn from the UK are the proud sponsors of the lastest baby turtles at Pom Pom. We have just released a batch of babies, all very healthy 2 nights ago. They hatched at 11pm and we carefully let them run on the beach to the sea. Many guests were there to witness this special occasion, its a wonderful feeling to watch the new born turtles enter the sea in the moon light. We would like to say a special thank you to Mike and Marilyn for their support of our hatchery and the protection and preservation of the turtles of Pom Pom.

２日前の夜１１時ごろにレストラン前の孵化センターで赤ちゃん海亀が誕生！生まれた赤ちゃん海亀はスタッフのトーマス＆ちえみ、そしてゲストの数人で注意してバケツに回収、ビーチに移動後、波うち際でそっと放流。。月明かりの中、海へかえって行く海亀を見るのはとても感動的だったわね。この海亀の巣に寄付をくださったのはイギリスのマイクさん＆マリリンさん。私達の海亀保護活動をご支援くださいまして本当にありがとうございます。

As part of running a successful hatchery, it is important to monitor the birth rate of the baby turtles and to check that we are doing everything correctly. Today, Michelle, Andy and myself dug out the old nests after the hatchings have been already born to see what has happened to the eggs that didn’t hatch. Some don’t hatch because they have not been fertilized or others don’t form properly in the egg. All this information is gathered and later we will supply it to WWF and the marine Universities for their studies of turtle populations.

ハッチェリー（海亀の卵の孵化センター）をうまく運営するために大切なこと。それは、卵にたいする海亀の孵化率をモニタリング、そして卵を正しい方法で取り扱い保護すること。今日、ミッシェルとアンディと私で以前卵が孵化した巣を掘り起こして、孵化しなかった卵がどうなっているか調査してみたわ。孵化しなかった卵は形状不良等が原因と判明。これらの調査資料はWWFや海亀の生態を研究する大学・施設へ提出する予定。

Yesterday afternoon at the Dive Centre, Andrea held a Birthday Party for his 34th Birthday, he is lucky as he still looks very young. Everyone from the Dive Centre attended plus staff from housekeeping, massage and maintenance. Food and soft drinks were abound, with dancing later. We ended up having a limbo competition, the winner was not Andy, but Bomo who appears to have a much lower centre of gravity, either that or maybe he has been secretly practicing.

昨日の午後、アンディーの34歳のバースデーパーティーをダイブセンターで開催！アンディーって年齢のわりに若く見える。。ほんとラッキーだわね！パーティーはダイブスタッフ全員集合、それに、ハウスキーピング、マッサージ、メンテナンス、レストランスタッフも参加。スナックやドリンクの茶話会に始まりダンス大会に突入！最後はリンボーダンス大会で締め。勝者はボモ。ほんとにどうやったらあんな低いバーの下をくぐれるのかしら！きっと密かに特訓しているに違いないわ。。。
